WHO…Julia Rothman, a pattern designer and illustrator located in Brooklyn NY. She is also part of a three person design company called Also and writes about nice books on her blog Book by its Cover.

CURRENTLY LOVING…I started a wedding groom collection a while back because I like how the little men look in tuxedos. I used to have them out on a little shelf but now that I am engaged it feels weird to display them- like I’m wedding obsessed or something. So I decided to put them away in a box but I do miss them. Also I am loving my new spice rack and two new hands(left) I got in an antique mall in Iowa this past holiday. The other two glove molds were a gift from Matt and Jenny (my Also partners) and the little metal box is from an antique store in Hudson, NY. All this stuff currently sits on my kitchen table (for lack of space) so I get to look at it every morning while eating my cereal.

  1. You could always tie tiny embroidery floss “nooses” around the grooms’ necks and hang them like a garland.

  2. Love the grooms! Although it makes me wonder what happened to all those lonely brides. Maybe someone else has a bride collection…

  3. Shut down, Joy! Julia is a part of Also!?! Well now I’m twice as much in love with her! Also is amazing!
I do like madeline’s suggestion of hanging them but there could be assumptions made about the underlying meaning of “hanging” grooms…? Why not rent them out as cake toppers for gay weddings? Such a quirky collection and so fun!

  4. Renting cake toppers? Now that’s a real statement about your confidence in the union’s permanence. I LOVE it.
I also love the grooms just stacked in the open box though. All piled up like ex-boyfriends or James Bonds. I’d just put the box standing on a shelf, open.
I’m married so I know none of that puts the voodoo on your marriage. You’ll see.

  5. Hey i collect those glove mold hands as well and….Iowa? My husband is from Iowa. We actually we met at the U of I…are you talking about the very awesome antiques mall in Iowa City!!!???

  6. Those look like they came straight from magicalday.com ‘ s website. Speaking of Iowa, Im here in Cedar Rapids 🙂
