Bern-polka-dot-helmet

Bern-polka-dot-helmet

In anticipation of my new bike last month, I was on a wild goose chase for a cute helmet {safety first!}. I came across this one by Ruby which was way out of my price range and for motorcycle {not bicycle} use. But I soon became obsessed with finding a black and white polka-dotted helmet where there were none to be found. So, I decided to make my own. Keep in mind, although I'm a designer, I am not a crafty DIY person. But this little project was so easy and turned out just as I had envisioned.

First, I chose a black matte Bern muse helmet for it's simplicity and slightly equestrian brim style {it was even on sale!}. Then, I ordered dot decals in white choosing the 1-1/2" size to get the larger polka dot scale I wanted. Next, I simply applied the dots starting at the base and working my way up in alternating rows. Since the helmet is curved, don't rush when applying and be sure to firmly smooth out the air bubbles before the entire dot is secure. And voila!

  1. That’s really resourceful and clever! I’m going to try for a motorbike license next year and haha, now I know how to achieve a polka dotted helmet :]

  2. This is the best helmet I’ve seen (and that’s a lot!). I was surprised to read that it’s a plain black Bern Muse. The polka dot decals were genius. I might have to try this one day with a red helmet and black polka dots 🙂

  3. oh goodie, i’m glad to see the result of your previous helmet post and that you went with the bern. I had recommended it ( i have the same black matte version) but without the beautiful adornment. Well done…such a nice quick ‘makebetter project’ as I like to call them.

  4. Absolutely cute!
A red helmet and black dots would be pretty as well – ladybird like- although the black and white version looks more stylish 🙂
    Good job!
