This past weekend, I had brunch at the same restaurant two days in a row! I've never before done that, but apparently, one day just wasn't enough. I had heard great things about Canelé from my friend Mari and finally tried it for brunch this weekend. I loved the low-key neighborhood vibe mixed with the French influence. It felt like a restaurant I'd find in Brooklyn with a comforting ease about it that I just loved. My favorites were the baked pancake with meyer lemon custard, the mixed berries {that cream was out of this world}, the house made ginger ale {not shown}, and the fried chicken sandwich {we loved it so much we had it times two}. A new weekly spot? So very likely! — Joy

that baked pancake looks divine.
all the food looks delicious, especially that fruit (and cream)!
*Drool* One of my favorite restaurants! You gotta go for dinner and have the boeuf bourguignon, pissaladiere, and dandelion salad! And on your way out the door, they give you a canele made from vintage molds. That was one of the places I was going to recommend to you when I got to the French section of my restaurant recommendations. Ok, don’t forget–boeuf bourguinon! Have a great day!
This looks so incredible. I always used to drive by their store and I would tell myself I need to try that!
That’s the most gorgeous pancake I’ve ever seen!
Thank you Joy for the LA restaurant suggestions. We’ve been checking out some of your spots and have loved them so far. 🙂
Can’t wait to try this one out sometime.

Everything looks delicious, but that pancake is calling out my name! I definitely need to check this place out.
Holy moley, all of that looks amazing. That is definitely going on my list for next time I’m out that way!
Their dutch baby and house smoked bacon are fantastic duo to start a weekend morning (and I completely agree the fried chicken sandwich is worth TWO visits).
Ontop of that, the ladies who own/operate Canele donate their kitchen for wonderful causes like this: http://www.closedonmondays.com/
yum, yum, yum!!!
just found your blog and I love it! I added it to my favorites on my blog!

Drool x 100. That looks like a mighty successful weekend.
Yummay~ I’m SOO gonna swing by this weekend! I love discovering little restaurants like these! Thanks JOY~ 🙂 And Oh my… look at that cream!!
Unconfirmed but I heard one of the dudes from The Wire owns it. Bubs. More awesome now? I think so.
Hey Sharon,
I think its his wife that is co-owner 😉
Best!

Each dish looks sooooo delicious! =D
I’m totally drooling! It all looks amazing! You’re so lucky to have found a brunch spot you think you can go to weekly! We used to have one but it kind of lost it’s appeal, the food got blah, the service too so we’re on the hunt to find the perfect, reasonably priced weekly brunch spot! Aaah those baked pancakes!! I want one!!

My husband and I are lucky enough to live 5 minutes from Canele and it’s our favorite weekend brunch spot. Their branzino is amazing, reminds me of being in European bistro
Oh my word… the meyer lemon cream. I think my daily smoothie, delicious as it is, may have just been usurped by something a little more decadent!
I’m so glad you discovered this gem, it’s one of our neighborhood favorites! Definitely come back for dinner or one of thier “closed on monday” pop up chef events.
And if you haven’t already check out Proof up the street a bit for some delicious treats and coffee — some say it rivals Intelligentsia, I say it’s an even tie of delish!
we ate there our last night in LA and it was fantastic. There’s a nice bookstore down the street too!
