{work in progress} my studio…

By now, you may have gotten a peek inside our home and seen our living room & dining room. You'll get to see a little bit more of our house with photos of the bedroom in next month's issue of Anthology Magazine. So in the meantime, I thought I'd share with you some peeks into my studio which has been a work-in-progress for the past couple months. I still have some things to hang and organize, but I'm pretty happy with how it's looking so far!

My inspiration for the giant polka dotted wall came from a DIY project in the Winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. An idea they suggested for the day of, I thought would be perfect year-round in my work space.

Simply use a large circle cutter and metallic contact paper, and place the dots however you like! I chose to fill the whole wall of one side of my studio and the outside of the door.

Finally, I hung bunch of prints on the wall above my desk using vintage pant hangers and topped it off with a Confetti System garland for constant ever-changing inspiration! — Joy

  1. LOVE it! This space is so open and fun but also gives a sense of creativity. I wish I could do this but my landlord might have a problem with that. =) xoxo

  2. Thanks Deja!
The contact paper actually comes off pretty easily. I had to reposition a few dots a few times and they didnt leave a mark in my experience!

  12. Ah! How did no one think of this before?!! So striking and probably very removable for those of us that rent our spaces. Thanks for giving us a sneak peek!

  13. Amazing! I love the metallic polka dots! Such a fun addition to your creative space. 😀 (And I’m super envious of your confetti system garland… drool!)

  14. Love your space!!! I would love to have a space like this in my house for my design work, however I live in a loft and find it hard to break up the space but your space inspires me to figure it out lol 🙂

  15. Wonderful as usual Joy; you are so so ‘ultra’ creative and engaging! Love your work and looking forward to seeing more of your designs on new* things. Target just opened up here in Canada and we are constantly looking and waiting for your collection to grace their shelves. If I should contact someone from this end, just let me know. Thanks, Suzy

  16. I really love the metallic polka dots on the door! It conveys that something exciting and creative is always happening in there! Perfectly captures your personality too! Looking forward to seeing more photos. Joy, thanks for sharing!

  17. Love the minimal yet, attractive style. As a photographer I’m always looking for new ways to hang or display my photos…You nailed it on this one Joy! 🙂

  18. I LOVE it! Such a great idea, hun. I love those metallic dots and love that it sounds so simple. Although any room with art & the confetti system garland can’t go wrong, right? 🙂 Beautiful…

  19. one word; Amazing! I also have a question about the gold dots. Are they decals?! Did you create them?! Please share… I’d love to add them to the walls of my laundry room, so brighten up that dark and gloomy place! 🙂

  20. I am so in love with this bc we also rent and I feel like we can not do anything. I mean who wants to spend a lot of money when its not yours? I just ordered the circle cutter and I am trying to find the paper and hangers bc they not ship here to my country wahh.

  21. Hi Joy,
I adore your office space! It’s so fun and inspiring. I’ve been saving this post because I want to do something like falling confetti on my closet doors (they’re sliding doors that cover a whole wall). My question is regarding the colour of your dots. The link takes me to a copper coloured contact paper but in the photo your dots look mostly gold. So do they look more copper in real life? If so, I will go for the gold contact paper! I think copper is too bright a metallic for me 😛
    Thanks for you help!!

  22. Hi Nabila!
Yes, I used the copper which looks like a rose gold. I love the color, but definitely go for regular gold if you dont want it quite as rosy.
    best!
    Joy

  23. Thanks! I have these horrible floor to ceiling metal doors in my apartment, and I was looking for a way to make them better, and this is Perfect! I’ve got the color scheme inverted (the doors are this….apricot color, and I can’t paint them, so I got silver contact paper.)
    Thanks for the perfect solution!

  24. Hi Joy! How many rolls of contact paper did you need for that amount of wall/door space? I want to do my walk-in closet with this adorable design and trying to gauge how much paper to buy!! Thanks!!

  25. I live in an apartment and would LOVE to do this on my accent wall. Will the contact paper be damaging to the pain if we leave it up for a long while?

  26. Love this space!! I am redoing my room and want to add the dots to one of my walls. What size did you do the circles? Would love to get the measurement info from you because these are the perfect size 🙂
