Our little getaway to Palm Springs was much different than past trips we've taken before. Ruby wasn't her usual perky self, and we spent a lot of time consoling a cranky, teething toddler. So this visit was much more low key, and we really spent the majority of time hanging by the pool and at the house where we were staying. But we did manage to have a few little adventures…
We went to go pick up a "thank you for having us" gift for our friends at the Trina Turk store. Because nothing is more Palm Springs than this shop full of color and pattern and summery goodness.
It was super windy in Palm Springs, but we still managed to take a few dips in the pool in between the wind storms!
We had lunch at the Colony Palms Hotel, which is a super-charming spot. It feels very Old Hollywood, and it's a nice retreat from some of the flashier hotels that Palm Springs is known for.
Of course, we found a park…because parks are pretty much Ruby's favorite thing these days…
My friend Kelly took me to one of her favorite shops, Party Lab, where you can get a plethora of party decor (if only I had a party to plan right now!). My favorites were the lawn flamingos—a must for any Palm Springs house.
I scored these awesome little stools from Revivals. Then we celebrated with chocolate milkshakes after…
…except someone stole my milkshake when I got home.
We went grocery shopping for a fun BBQ night in with friends. The grocery stores in Palm Springs are huge and not crowded at all. It was like food-shopping bliss! Ruby happily walked the aisles and re-merchandised the gourmet pickles as she saw fit.
Ruby learned how to kick in the water…a little preparation for swim classes this summer!
Despite a couple hiccups (wind storms and a teething toddler), it was great to get away and take a little break from the day-to-day routine. While we were lucky to get to stay with friends, if you go to Palm Springs with a young child, I definitely recommend renting a small house. It was really nice to have the space for Ruby to play and to be able cook and prepare our own food and to catch up with good friends in their beautiful home…

That looks like an awesome break! I’m quite keen to go to Palm Springs now…how’s the cycling out there? (I can convince my husband to go just about anywhere as long as he can cycle). 😉 And I’m so sorry about your plates, that is horrible.
Poor Ruby! But it looks like you guys were able to have a little bit of fun. I love Palm Springs there is just something about this sleepy town that has a trendy scene as well.
Can’t wait to go back.

Well she certainly looks perky! But this is my experience with 1 1/2 year olds – we tried Hawaii once at 18 months and learned our lesson – with our second one being that age, we’re buckling down to ride it out at home 🙂

That little milkshake thief looks too cute in her swim suit! I prefer the one piece for my little one also. Vacationing with a toddler can be rough, so I’m glad you were able to have some fun!

On another note, have you heard of amber teething necklaces? They’re not intended for teething, but actually release a pain reliever that our bodies make naturally. So when the amber is warmed by our skin, it releases the smallest amounts of pain reliever that aids in relieving those baby gums. We only buy our amber from Inspired By Finn. com My little one only had a couple of rough nights while teething, which I found incredible! We also really liked highlands teething tablets.

Rest assured, there are some good places to ride out here, and some great hills if your husband likes a challenge.

We visited Palm Springs last month ….we’re from Sydney, Australia and spent 3weeks in California. We had such a great time! I loved the architecture, the relaxed holiday feel and loads of funky shops and good food!!
So fun! One of our favorite spots to vacation! Heading there next month!
