4 tips for a cool black & white bedroom

As a continuation to our black and white Color Adventures this month, it's time for a black and white bedroom! This one we put together feels modern, fresh, and fun. Here are some tips for creating one like this for yourself!

1. Focus on a ratio of furnishing 75/25 when decorating. If the black and white usage is too 50/50, the room might feel like an optical illusion to the eyes. If you more heavily lean towards black, it will feel more sultry and sophisticated. If you lean more towards white as your 75%, the room will feel fresher and lighter (which is what we did here). The space here is mostly white with black being used in smaller accent furniture and mixed within patterns and prints.

2. Mix airy prints in different scales. Since this color combo can be super intense if used with bold patterns, we focused on airy patterns with lots of negative space. Mixing patterns and scales still gives a fun play, but we kept the larger areas of pattern those with lots of negative space. The denser patterns (like the bold stripe) stayed on the fitted sheets and pillow cases so they were present but not the focus.

3. For art, mix illustrations with photography. As we often show in our gallery walls, you can use common colors to unite art that feels very different from one another. To give your gallery wall depth and texture, make sure to add photo prints in addition to painted or illustrated prints.

4. Finally, add pops of metallic. Gold makes everything better. And in this case, it helps to add sophisticated and a bit of shimmer to an otherwise colorless room.

  1. Lights too could play a great role in the theme of the house. i’d recommend thin LED lights maybe on the walls. However, i can’t say that i’m a good designer. Just a suggestion
