a reversible apron diy!

The new kitchen in our Oh Joy office is finally finished (will share all of those before and after photos soon)! So with a real, working kitchen we've been making more recipes and fun treats for content for the blog. With the need for an easy apron to have on hand, we created this reversible waist apron that works great when you're cooking and don't need the coverage of a full apron but the functionality to hold some items and keep your hands clean. All you need is some fabric and a sewing machine. Here's how…

You'll need:

– 1 yard of two different fabrics (grid fabric, colorful abstract fabric)
– cotton belting (similar)
– straight pins
– no sew glue
– sewing machine

Here's how:

1. Measure and cut a piece of fabric 24×32".
2. Lay on top of your second fabric, fastening with straight pins and cut to match.
3. Cut a pocket measuring 5×7 out of each style of fabric.
4. Fold over each top edge of the pocket and glue with no sew glue. This will give a nice finished edge to your pocket when sewn onto the apron front. Let dry 10 minutes.
5. Place each pocket where you'd like on the apron and sew on with sewing machine. We paired each pocket with the opposite style fabric for a mix and match look.
6. Lay the two fabrics facing each other with back side facing out. Secure with straight pins.
7. Measure around your waist to determine how long you'd like the ties to be, and cut the cotton belting to that length.
8. Finish the end of each tie (so it doesn't fray) by folding over the end of the cotton belting and sewing.
9. Measure 3" down from the top on each side and insert the cotton belting, facing inward between the two sheets of fabric. Secure with straight pin.
10. On sewing machine, sew all the way around the four edges (leaving a few inches open so that you can turn the apron right side out). Finish sewing with a manual loop stitch once inverted.
