We love adding unexpected color and fun here at Oh Joy! So today, we’ve partnered with Cricut to show you a really fun way to make your very own focal headboard using a large scale pattern cut out of adhesive vinyl! The Cricut Maker is one of our favorite tools because it allows us to get really creative and go BIG when dreaming of new ways to bring joy into our home. If you haven’t heard of the Cricut Maker, it’s an electronic cutting machine that cuts hundreds of materials like our vinyl project, but also heavier materials like leather and chipboard. Check it out…
We created a large scale floral pattern (made of smaller pieces) for the Circuit Maker to cut on adhesive vinyl. It can cut out super intricate designs, like these fun florals, and is so easy to use. We picked all our favorite colors (coral, pinks, yellows, blues, and greens!) for the vinyl, grabbed our Cricut Maker, and got to work…
Here’s how…
1. When creating your headboard, you can either upload your own image or download one from Cricut Design Space. We uploaded one of our own Oh Joy! floral patterns!
2. Once you have your design uploaded into Design Space, place your vinyl color side up onto the mat and follow the Cricut Maker vinyl cutting instructions. With the Maker, it’s super easy to select the exact vinyl you’re using. We used Cricut Premium Vinyl, which comes in both permanent and removable rolls.
3. Once your vinyl design is cut, peel it and stick it on the wall as you want to create your headboard. If you need to place more than one design at once or need to line up designs, you can use Cricut Tranfser Tape to easily move vinyl from the backing to whatever surface you’re sticking it to.
We stuck the vinyl adhesive to the wall and made it so that the designs trailed off into the negative space of the wall! In this case, we overlapped the pattern onto an actual headboard but you can use this idea for a bed without a headboard to create the look of one. We also love this for a kid’s room where you can play with placing them anywhere in the room and make whatever shapes you want.
