If you have a smaller home or apartment and need a home office just sometimes, creating a dedicated office space can be low on the priority list. It's SO nice to have a space ready when you do need to work from home for a bit to pay those bills, or sit down and write letters. So today, we're showing you how you can create a small home office either as part of a guest room or as a small corner in another main room! It only takes up one corner, and with a few key elements, it truly feels like its very own special place. Here are a few key tips…

1. Use an area rug (or two!) to define the space. When creating a designated room or space within another, it's important to signify where one space begins and the other ends. A great and super simple way to do this is with a rug. We used this amazing vintage Moroccan rug to create a very clear space for the office and even based the color scheme of the office around it. To add visual interest and cover more floor space, we layered two rugs. So if you ever fall in love with a rug but the dimensions aren't exactly perfect for your space, don't worry! You can add in another and make it even more fun.

2. Lots of shelves! When working with a smaller space, it's important to utilize every inch of it. Maximize the area by using wall mounting shelves and utilizing the space vertically. Here, we hung multiple shelves and hooks to store items. We also color-blocked the walls which helps define the space AND brings in extra color.

3. Choose a small desk. There's usually not enough room to bring in an official office desk. Especially in a small space, make use of a smaller desk that has built-in functions (like shelves or small drawers). That way, you have a designated space to store things when not in use, but it's also simple enough to prevent you from filling it up with too much stuff!
