Get ready, because today, we're taking a field trip to Still Life Ceramics. (You may recognize it from our Day Trip to the Row in downtown Los Angeles here!) I recently took a class at Still Life for a friend's party and had so much fun that I decided to bring the the entire Oh Joy! team back for an out-of-office activity just before the holidays. As someone who sits at a desk for most of my day, it was a refreshing change. Come take a peek!

I love their studio space. It's very minimalist while incorporating fun pops of colors through murals, plants, twinkle lights, and shelves filled with amazing ceramic pieces. The front of the store is set up as a shop where people can actually purchase items, and behind the register is where the wheels and tables for hand-building are set up.

For our class, we learned how to throw a bowl! A few people on the team have done wheel-throwing before and some had never tried it! It was so fun to see what everyone created. We started with just a mound of clay and then made our own masterpieces as the teacher walked us through the process step-by-step. For me, I loved getting my hands dirty and stepping away from the computer for a couple hours.

Here's a peek at our bowls before they got trimmed and fired (since we took the basic hour-long class, the studio handles the glazing part of the process)! If you're interested in trying it, Still Life offers LOTS of different classes and courses to take, depending on what you're interested in. They have workshops, hour-long classes, the option to book a private event (great for birthday parties!), and month long courses were you can learn the full process and techniques in-depth. Check it out on their website here. We all had a great time!
