Mission: Printmaking

Testprint1

Testprint1

I just came across this old test print and was delightfully reminded of my love of Printmaking.

In the past (specifically in college), I took a lot of printmaking classes…I’ve done woodcut, linoleum block, etching…as well as some additional classes in papermaking, bookbinding, & fibers as complements. I’ve really been craving a new class to get my hands dirty and remind me how fun it is to make prints… designing solely on the computer really numbs me sometimes. My new mission is to take a silkscreen class, fabric printing & letterpress class. I’ve missed the Fall deadline at the area art schools, but in January, it’s all about Mission: Printmaking. In the meantime, I’ll finally try and use my mini Gocco printer–and visit some of these great local Print Organizations in the area.

The Print Center ~ A non-profit gallery who supports printmaking and photography as vital contemporary arts
The Fabric Workshop ~ The only museum in the United States creating and exhibiting new work in fabric and experimental materials
The Print Collaborative ~ A dynamic network of organizations and individuals that enhance Philadelphia’s presence as an international center for fine art printmaking

Great Classes in the area…
Fleisher Art Memorial
University of the Arts
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
