While on our coastal road trip last week, we spend a night at the Sanitarium, a modern bed & breakfast,
in the small college town of San Luis Obispo. The former frat house was transformed five years ago into a dreamy, sun-filled,
and spacious place for visitors. Mixing original art, antique furniture, and modern comforts {like soaking tubs and steam showers}, the Sanitarium is definitely one of the most unique B&B's I've ever been to.

oh my gosh that bed nook?! are you kidding me?! love. love love love. 🙂 happy friday!
This is seriously amazing. That copper tub is so dreamy. I’m a sucker for hotels + inns … this will have to go to the top of my list!
We stayed in that room with the fireplace (http://wemetinabar.com/?s=the+sanitarium) and we looooved it. A must for anyone traveling to or through SLO.

thank you for the tip! this place looks awesome.
my family + i lived in the sleepy beach town of san luis obispo many moons ago so i have a soft spot for this place. and now, with this utterly charming b + b, the fiance and i have an excuse to have our own trip along the coast!
thanks for sharing this hidden gem, joy!
xo,

lovely. i too lived in slo, though not that many years ago, in a perfect gingerbread-y victorian on islay street. these pics brought back so many memories — could almost smell the roses and lavender in the garden! thanks!
I’m so glad you gave a little shout out to San Luis Obispo. I’ve been here for nearly a decade and have yet to tire of it’s charm and character. I hope you hit some delicious restaurants while you were here… there are so many!
What a little gem and gorgeous bed btw! Looks like you had fun 😉
This place looks gorgeous, I love their style. I hope I can stop in some time to check it out in person!
my favorite place by far for a quick get away from orange county. We’ve even taken the train up there since the station is literary around the corner from the Sanitarium. this was our hidden gem and I hold a special place in my heart for SLO.
looks v.cool, what a great b&b style.
That place is heaven on a stick!! Just the most divine b&b I’ve seen. How great is that bed?? Beautiful colours everywhere you go. Pruxxx
This bed and breakfast looks amazing. I’ll definitely have to keep it in mind if I ever go to San Luis Obispo. ilgattoselvatico.blogspot.com

The painting on the ground… looks like a Bua, do you know?
I stayed at the Sanitarium a few years ago and thought it was beautiful, but felt like there was something strange about it. In the middle of the night, I felt like there was a ghost in our room or something. (So weird!)
I mentioned it to the inn keeper the next morning and he said, very matter-of-fact, “Oh, yes, it is haunted.” “Um, excuse me?” I replied. He then proceeded to tell us about all of the strange things that have happened there. Nothing dangerous, but eerie enough.
I would think they’d what to let people know that ahead of time!
Nonetheless, the place is very pretty!
This looks like a great place to stay on a long weekend. These pictures are breathtaking. I am definitely going to put this place on the top of my vacation list.
