yuzu fever…

While in Japan, I got a serious case of Yuzu Fever. While I've had yuzu in Japanese dishes before, I had never had fresh yuzu juice…mixed with water or soda and ice, yuzu juice is like the best lemonade I've ever had. It tastes and smells like a really intense, fragrant lemon…with a little something extra I can't quite describe. Now that I am back in LA, I'm determined to find some juice here {which probably only comes in concentrate}…or maybe even grow a little yuzu tree in our backyard?

  1. I see it every once in awhile at Sunrise Mart and Mitsuwa in NY. I”m sure you can find yuzu in any Asian market in CA.
It is a tad more expensive than lemons though.

  2. You sould be able to buy Yuzu at restaurant produce supply warehouses or Asian markets. In fact, you’ve inspired me to look for some too! When it was 100 degrees a week ago (really – just one week!) I made a big pitcher of lemonade with agave nectar which we downed in two days. Sooo good.

  3. Not sure about the juice, but yuzu is super popular in many forms here in Korea (where it’s called yuja). I’ve taken to buying jars of concentrate that are intended for tea and adding a couple of spoonfuls to all kinds of things! It’s great with sparkling water and smoothies as well. Zenkimchi.com even has a recipe for using the yuja, which looks like a jar of marmalade, to make a chicken dish. In LA, you can get it at the big Korean markets on Western.

  4. That sounds delicious! Is yuzu the English name? I see a lot of kaffir limes in Thailand and I wonder if they’re similar. Regardless, I now have an excellent drink idea.

  5. Hi Kelsi!
Kaffir limes are different than Yuzu, Yuzu is definitely closer to a lemon in look and flavor. 😉
    Best!

  6. Thanks for the clarification. I’m so curious about yuzu now. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for them. 🙂
