This past weekend, we took our visiting foodie friends on a whirlwind 36-hour food tour of LA. Since they were only in town for a short while, Bob and I tried to pack as much as we could into very little time. While others take their guests to museums and tourist attractions, we go to restaurants and food markets. We decided to save the ethnic food for another day {since that deserves a tour of it's very own}, so here's where we went with a few highlights pictured above…

Friday:
Lunch at Umami Burgerclassic Umami burger, pickle plate, beet salad, and smashed potatoes {they were out of the cheesy tator tots, otherwise, those would have been the potato product of choice}.

Dinner at Providence — We were pleasantly surprised to get seated at the Chef's Table after a last minute cancellation at the same time as our reservation. We had our own private room with wall-to-ceiling windows looking right into the kitchen…an unbelievable experience. The dinner was amazing and worth every pretty penny.

Saturday:
Coffee at Lamill — they tried Bob's favorite coffee, the Panama Geisha

Pit stop at the Silver Lake Farmer's Market

Breakfast at Cafe Stella — with said must share doughnuts mentioned yesterday

Pit stop at the Cheese Store of Silver Lake — definitely our new favorite place for artisanal goodies

Pit Stop at Bottega Louie — the prettiest desserts around

Pit Stop at Joan's on Third — more sweet treats and a great marketplace

Lunch & mid-day dessert at Simplethings — the peanut butter chocolate & salted caramel pies were my favorite

Pit stop at Farmshop & Sweet Rose Creamery in the Brentwood Country Mart — we could have spent a couple hours here, such fun little shops to explore!

Dinner at Cube — loved the cheese plate, homemade pop tarts, and the deconstructed s'mores!

It was a lot to cram in such a short period of time, and so many others on the list we would have loved to take them to but our friends left full and happy…and we're already planning their next trip back for an ethic food tour of LA. — Joy

  1. Ooh, yum! I’ve never been to LA but now I can see I have a few good reasons to go. Those “seasonal meringues” from Farmshop… what makes them seasonal?

  2. Did you sample the macarons at Bottega Louie? What are your thoughts? I’m curious because I’ve been trying to find a place that can top Europane’s macarons and really, I haven’t found one yet.

  3. WOO. Providence~I went there once for my birthday! Super YUMMY food… combination of flavors i’ve never even had before!! yumm..NOW i wanna go back for round two.

  4. YUM!! Everything looks amazing Joy! My last trip to LA, we had brunch at Bottega Louie and I loved it! The space is so beautiful and the pastries too! Great foodie post, makes me happy! 🙂

  6. It all sounds delicious and I will definitely have to try some of those places when I’m in LA again. Next time your friends come to visit you should bring them up to Santa Barbara, we have some great restaurants here!

  7. This post has officially made my stomach churn, I am that hungry. I love all the places you went to. Bottega is my one of my absolute favorite places ever. I die for their macarons.
