I first shared this go-to recipe over at Design*Sponge a few years ago…and wanted to post an update and even easier version here today! It's so easy and so good! Here's how…

You'll need:

— pizza dough {I used pre-made dough from Trader Joe's} and loose flour for kneading
— vegetables of your choice {I used baby bella mushrooms and shallots}
— tomato sauce {I love Rao's Arrabbiata sauce}
— cheese {I used hot pepper jack and fresh mozzerella}
— optional: pepperoni, sausage, or any other toppings of choice

1. Sauté shallots or onions, mushrooms, and any other vegetables you'd like in olive oil until cooked but not wilted.

2. Coat the bottom of an oven-safe bowl with olive oil. Alternate cheese, vegetables, sauce in the bowl.

3. Top the bowl with a flattened piece of pizza dough and let hang over the edge. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes until dough is golden.

4. Invert the pizza onto a plate and enjoy!

  1. We’re doing a make your own pizza dinner party with the family this weekend and this will be perfect (especially with so many people and limited oven space)…love TJ pizza dough!

  2. How inventive! Your pizza pot pie looks delicious! I am a great fan of pizza and pot pies but I haven’t thought of combining the two together. I will be making this dish next week after we get all the ingredients! Thanks, Joy!

  3. These have been served at Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. for almost 40 years & are simply awesome! They layer the cheese in bowl 1st so it ends up on top when inverted. The tortoni ice cream is the perfect ending to this meal
