While I'm not a cup-a-day coffee drinker, I do love the smell of a freshly brewed cup of coffee and enjoy an occasional pick-me-up from time-to-time. Handsome Coffee Roasters in downtown Los Angeles is certainly for the serious {yet playful} coffee drinker. There are no lattes, teas, or other non-coffee items, but they do have morning treats from Proof, which is my favorite bakery in LA.

I loved the Colombian San Sebastian for its smooth, rich, and nutty flavor, and the space for its light and airy feel. You can see right into the back roasting area where all the magic happens, and you just might find a bike messenger {or three} hanging out in between shifts in this industrial, yet up-and-coming, part of town. — Joy

  1. Can I join you for a cup? Lovely place.
I will be searching through your archives for LA recommendations as I’ll be there in the next while for a family vacation. Can’t wait as I haven’t been to SoCal since grad school in Santa Barbara!

  2. I myself am not a regular coffee drinker, but love a cup now and then. I love the concept of this coffee shop: straight up coffee and no frills. So many cafés all look the same with dark warm wood and squishy ottomans. I love this industrial feel! So new and fresh!

  3. joy ~ i just have to say that i think you are GORGEOUS!! i love seeing photos of you just out and about and love your posts about your husband and ruby. 🙂 thanks for sharing your life with all of us.

  4. Hi! I’ve been dying to order some pieces from CrewCuts (they have great stuff), but was unsure about the sizing. Have you bought anything but the jacket? Thanks so much, and I agree with some of the other commenters–that bag is incredible. It stopped me in my tracks.

  5. That fellow there making your coffee is a world-class latte artist and one heck of a nice guy—literally, as he’s known as “Nicely!” Say hi to him from Meister next time you get a Handsome (and delicious!) coffee. 😉

  6. Sigh… I am a coffee fiend, and these drinks (and the coffee shop itself!) look divine. I need to go on some coffee adventures here in NYC.
I love these photos. Is it crazy that one of my favorite moments is in the very first image where your heel is out of the shoe? Such a small but incredibly real moment. And your bag is stunning.

  7. Soyoung,
Ha! I love that you noticed that. I didnt realize until I saw that photo how much I must do that while waiting in line for things 😉
    Joy

  8. i’m so happy i discovered this blog! it brings me so much joy and everything on it is so pretty. living downtown i was so excited to see your cute pics of this place and might just head there now :). do you mind sharing where you get your haircut?

  9. those cups are the cutest! we are seriously lacking in the cool cafes department where I’m from. (or maybe it’s just that I don’t have the time to enjoy them)

  10. That’s my friend’s company! If you go again, tell Tyler Wells that “the Ziskinds” in Austin, TX miss him.

  11. Not only do I love coffee but I love these out and about Joy and Bonnie adventures where you’re capturing the experience – keep up the great work! And now I want a latte 🙂
