happy friday + that feeling…

Oh-joy-shoe-shot

Oh-joy-shoe-shot

I recently heard someone say, "If it doesn't make you slightly uncomfortable, it's not worth doing." While my initial reaction would be "Why would I want to do anything that makes me uncomfortable?", after thinking about it some more I realized that tingling, grumbling, butterflies in your stomach kind of feeling can be a good thing. It comes from being challenged, trying something new, and hoping that those new things actually work out. I've had lots of transition lately in my business and in the direction I am taking some of my creative pursuits lately. Sometimes you can keep going with things because they're easy, but it's making changes and trying something new that really helps you grow and think in new ways {my stomach rumbles as I write this}

Hope you guys have a great weekend, and perhaps, try something new even if it makes you a little queasy… — Joy

  1. It is scary, but it’s essential too I think. Everyday when we blog, we’re kind of putting ourselves out there you know? I always get a little nervous at first, but then when I get positive feedback it totally makes it worthwhile.
    Happy Friday 🙂

  2. I have been feeling slightly (really) uncomfortable every time I sit down to work on my book lately. I think I needed to hear this. Thank you!

  3. It’s a little Too ironic you write this today, as I’m working through some creative changes, myself & have a temptation to just move on from it rather than push through towards it…so what a great reminder that things worth having take a little hard work & Courage. Have a great weekend!

  4. This was great to read…I have a scary, 5 hour job interview coming up, and half of me was so tempted to turn it down and pretend like I never got the opportunity…but then I realised it’s better to try something scary and fail than not to try. Hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

  5. I can totally agree with that. The little discomfort you concur makes it seem like so much more of an accomplishment.

  6. I usually just assume that grumbly feeling means I’m hungry 🙂 Whether or not that’s true, a cookie always seems to help! Happy weekend!

  7. I know exactly what you mean! I recently read a quote that went something like this, “If you’re dreams don’t scare you, then they’re not big enough!” I try to remember this as I pursue my graphic design major. I’ve been told by so many people that it’s impractical and sometimes I feel inferior to some of the other art majors. I always get that grumbling, tingling feeling upon walking in to a new studio class but I try to remind myself that it’s because I’m being challenge, because I’m fronting courage to try something new.

  8. This is very I spring for me because I’m in the middle of a huge change and trying to figure out a bunch of things. Believe it or not… This post sort of keeps me focused on the path that I want to follow… Have a great weekend!

  9. Funny – i have this weird feeling all day, because some things are changing in our life right now. This advice comes right on time!

  10. There’s a saying that if you are too comfortable in life then it’s time to try something new. I’m sure whatever you’re pursuing is going to turn out great in the end and sometimes that nervous feeling can be kinda exciting too! 🙂

  11. Thank you! I am about to make some big changes in life, things I have been thinking about for a while and realise now is the time. Perfect timing for a reminder that doing new things, though scary, can be an incredible adventure. Just gotta be brave for a little while

  12. I’ve been feeling the same way lately… that uncomfortableness can lead to good things I’m sure 🙂 And those shoes are oh so cute, I want some like that!!

  13. An excellent reminder why I should stop putting off what really matters to me. I have to let go of the “easier” distractions and just do what my gut tells me I must do.

  14. There are two types of scary: scary good and scary bad. If it’s scary bad don’t do it. If it’s scary good then go for it!

  15. Aloha Joy! This post hits home! I overcame my fears and started surfing again and taking ballet classes. I was ready to quit the first time I tried both because I was out of my comfort zone. I stuck it out and am now loving both!

  16. Hi Joy! I’ve been trying to wear heels less often due to feet and back problems and am very picky with flats and I really liked yours. Wear can I find them?
