One of my favorite places to eat in Philly (my hometown) is Han Dynasty. It's the best Chinese food in the city, in my opinion. And ever since moving to L.A., I've been trying to find similar Szechuan-style food here. Thankfully, out in Rowland Heights (about 40 minutes outside of L.A.), there's a mecca of Chinese food options. I was so happy to come across No.1 Noodle House and find a close-ish match to some of my favorite dishes back in Philly.
I loved the wontons in chili oil and the dan dan noodles. I love things on the spicy side, and there's a Szechuan pepper used in many of the dishes that has an intensely fragrant, citrus-like flavor and produces a tingly, numbing sensation in the mouth.
It's kind of weird, but also really delicious! I could seriously spend the day in Rowland Heights eating up a storm of noodles and other niche foods you can only get out there.

Looks amazing. I’ll be in Philadelphia over Christmas–so I just made a reservation at Han Dynasty. Thanks for the recommendation!
Wow those wontons look amazing!
It all looks so yummy.
There’s this little place in Hawaii called the Noodle House that serves simliar dishes. It’s so good too.
I’ve found really great authentic (spicy) Szechuan food in Chicago and Dallas but had difficulty finding any places in LA. Really appreciate you sharing. Good looking out!
Chung King in San Gabriel has legit Szechuan food. I think it may be closer to you than Rowland Heights. http://www.yelp.com/biz/chung-king-restaurant-san-gabriel-2
yum! looks delish!
I want to go to there. Those noodles look like just what my slightly hungover self needs. Yes I know it’s a Wednesday.
I love Han Dynasty! Definitely one of the things I miss about Philly… Han is hilarious, and knows his food. Did you see him on Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover in Philly? Fun to see Han on tv.
I’m from Philly too! Han Dynasty is actually one of the places I don’t go to very often. When was the last time you came back? There are a lot of new places to eat now. Still trying to pick out some favorites for me.
I also really like the bright pink! And I see the glitter shoes as well!
i don’t know where rowland heights is… but apparently its only 40 miles away, im gonna have to make a trip. that looks amazing!!!
Great pics! Hope you get to visit Singapore one day, we have a lot of those here 🙂 Love your fuchsia coat!
Han Dynasty rocks! As does being able to wear kids sized clothes!
