Dim sum is one of my favorite weekend treats. I love tasting a little bit of everything, so it's one of the best meals to enjoy with a bunch of friends. In Los Angeles, the best dim sum is usually located outside the city, in Arcadia or Monterey Parkโso it can be hard to find dim sum that's close by and available on weekdays.
But Pingtung on Melrose in L.A. satisfies my need for a little dum sum right in the city. Pingtung doesn't have carts like the traditional dim sum places do, but it does have a lot of my favorites, plus a few non-traditional options, as well.
I loved the spicy shrimp dumplings, steamed barbeque pork buns, and the green bean salad (because you need some veggies to balance out all those carbs!). Plus, it's modern, super low key, and less hectic than the traditional dim sum spots I usually visit!

Love the tea display too! The decor in this little place looks so relaxed – reminds me of a coffee bar. Wish I could visit it, the food looks yummy!
Dimsum is one of my absolute favorite meals! Steamed charsiu buns are on my Must Have lists as well, along with some other goodies ๐
You know what’s sad… I lived in LA for about 3 years and NEVER got dim sum there! I was just talking about Joy Tsin Lau in Philadelphia with friends YESTERDAY… so I am now majorly craving dim sum. Your photos made my mouth water ๐
Mmm, I definitely grew up on dim sum. Pretty photos — I’ll have to check this place out!
I haven’t had dim sum since I was last in London. I see I’ve been missing out. I’ll be getting to this place, stat!
