Dressing the Bump / Post Baby

We welcomed Coco Grace Cho on October 20, 2014, and we couldn't be happier that our family is complete. During my pregnancy, we covered what to wear while rocking that baby bump, but what do you wear while your post baby bump is still around? We filmed this a month after I gave birth so my post-baby bump is similar to what it looked like in the first trimester. Here's the last video in my Dressing the Bump series with some tips for what to wear post-partum as well as pieces that work well for nursing.

Thank you so much for joining me in the Dressing the Bump series. It was so fun to make, and I hope helpful to those of you expecting as well!

You can find all sources for the clothing worn in this video below…

*Please keep in mind that everyone recovers differently post pregnancy. I hope you'll find these videos helpful at some stage of your pregnancy.

  1. Joy!
Great post!! So inspiring and practical. I think a lot of women worry about their post-baby body while they are pregnant. I found that once the baby comes all you are focused on is that precious baby! It puts worrying about your body into perspective. Thanks for doing a post to show women how to look beautiful, be comfortable and enjoy their little one without putting any pressure on our body image!!
I have also found that this nursing tank is helpful if you want to lift your shirt instead of pulling it down while nursing. It has built in cups and allows you to easily wear any shirt over it. Pull that shirt up, snap the cup down, and breastfeed incognito! http://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=97429Z10362&MasterCategory_Id=MC29
Keep up all the positive things you do!! And Congrats on your family!!

  2. Thanks Jackie!
I totally agree. I let go of so many body issues after I had my first baby because it just didn’t matter anymore.
And thanks for the tank suggestion!
    Best,
    Joy

  3. Great ideas and such stylish choices! We had our daughter Katie two weeks ago and I’ve really enjoyed following along with this series! Thank you, Joy!

  4. I won’t be having kids any time soon, but as a human being and woman I really appreciate you acknowledging the fact that there is a post-baby body and that’s totally ok! The body-obsession is crazy sometimes.

  5. love that board on side of the stroller. brilliant idea. it must be magic in helping ruby adjust to sharing attention with baby sister coco. Now your fans have two adorable girls to gush over! Congratulations and Mazel Tov from this hometown blog fan.

  6. Thanks for introducing me to Loyal Hana – what beautiful pieces! I just went a little wild on their site. Congrats again and thanks for all the tips! : )

  7. Thanks Kristy!
My post-baby bump might never go away, and I’m okay with that cause I got something pretty good in exchange for it 😉
    Joy

  8. Joy, you always are willing to keep it real…thanks for showing off your post-baby bump and affirming to all women that it’s ok! Love the nursing pieces you featured :). xoxo, Annie

  9. I’m also really happy that someone finally talks about how our bodies are different post-maternity ! Here in France, most first-time mothers bring along a set of their old, non-pregnancy clothes to the maternity. Of course, when the baby is here, the clothes don’t fit, so they walk out with the same clothes they had coming in, which I find really depressing. It happened to a few of my friends.
Luckily, I was prepared the second time around, and brought a stretchy dress (my daughter was born mid-summer) that I knew would fit and wasn’t maternity clothing. I felt really good coming out of the maternity wearing it.
PS: Joy, you look gorgeous !

  10. Great video as always! I’d love to see a video on newborn essentials that have helped get you through the first few months! First time mom at 37 weeks and it’s so hard to know what I really need versus what things are purely for cuteness ?.

  11. Hi Joy! I have loved your site for a LONG time, and remembered loving your maternity posts, so now that I’m pregnant with my second I hopped back on here for inspiration…
Any chance you are interested in selling this Rachel Pally dress? I love it and it is nowhere to be found on the internet!
