how to feel young even as you get older…

Last month, I turned 37. And while I often joke that I am “so old” because of my numeric age, I always feel like I’m actually in my early 20’s. Now, that doesn’t mean I have the desire to stay up late and party like a young 20-something, but in my mind, I feel younger than I am. As I get older, I realize it’s the really simple things that keep us feeling young. Today, I’ve partnered with No7 to share my go-to tips for feeling young even as you get older…

1. Dance and sing without caring what anyone thinks – I used to really care if I had good rhythm and if my voice sounded okay to others. And what I learned was that I don’t have good rhythm and I’m actually pretty tone deaf. But worrying about what others think of my dancing and singing weighed me down and prevented me from just letting loose and letting myself express how I feel through something so fun and eternally youthful like dancing and singing whenever you feel like it.

2. Laugh at yourself – I’m not perfect. No one is. Sometimes we mess up. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we say the wrong thing. Laugh it off and know that whatever it is will work itself out, and you’re going to be okay.

3. Take Care of Your Skin – It sounds obvious, but when you feel good about yourself, you feel younger. And your skin is the first thing you see every morning in the mirror. In all honesty, I really haven’t been that proactive with my skincare over the years, mainly because I didn’t want to admit to myself that I was actually getting older. But I recently tried the No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum. The texture is amazing and has made my skin more supple and luminous. It’s become a go-to addition to my morning and evening routine, and I apply a small amount on my whole face after cleansing and before moisturizing for younger looking skin.

4. Go to Bed Two Hours Earlier – As adults, we often spend our evening hours doing bills and laundry or catching up on social media. And before you know it, it’s midnight and you meant to go to bed way earlier. Have you ever regretted going to bed early or have you ever hated feeling well-rested? Probably not. Sleep is one of the keys to feeling like you can go tackle the world the next day. So if you feel tired (like I often do), try going to bed two hours earlier. Chances are you might not be able to actually get to bed until one hour before but that’s still a whole hour more that you won’t regret.

5. Eat Dessert – Grown-ups go on diets. Grown-ups spend so much time obsessing over how they don’t look like they did in high school. Of course, be healthy and do what’s right for your body, but please also remember to treat yourself every once in a while. Because life is too short to (always) be counting calories.

How do you guys keep yourselves feeling young?

  1. Yes Yes Yes! I just realised I turn 38 this year (I totally forgot how old I am haha!) and started freaking out that it’s so old and I haven’t done half the things I wanted to do by this time. But I don’t feel that old, and so I feel kinda happy and content. I think that’s ok 🙂 x

  2. Great great post and since Diya was born i’ve started sleeping early and love it 🙂 and yes who doesn’t like eating deserts..great advice! As long as i can do what i want to do, age is just a number for me 🙂

  3. Great post! Going to bed two hours earlier is nearly impossible, but I definitely eat dessert and treat myself (sometimes, too often!). I Crossfit throughout the week and it’s what keeps me young!

  4. Age is just a number…my number is almost 64…humph…who cares…I still feel 30. It’s probably because I have young kids, I’m still working full, full time, have a loving husband, a silly blog, and grab life with both hands….yes, I take care of my skin (love No. 7 and try to stay out of the sun) and drink lots of water too. And I laugh. As often as I can. 🙂 This was a fun post!

  5. Age is definitely just a number. I am 54 and feel like I’m still in my 30’s. I attribute this to having laughter in my laugh on a daily basis – I have a teenager who keeps me entertained – in a good way! Daily exercise (jazzercise) – I love to dance but can’t dance so it gives me an excuse to let loose. Lastly, practicing moderation with what I eat – I don’t deny myself but I practice balance. Aging can be beautiful and empowering if you embrace it and take care of yourself.

  6. I forget how old I am after my 30th birthday. Lol. I find going out for dinner with my girlfriends from high school keeps me young. We talk and laugh about the good & bad times we shared. Sometimes it’s not easy to arrange and meet (family, kids, work, etc) but we try!

  7. I am turning 37 too this Nov! Thanks for your words, it makes me feel better as life has been challenging these few months. Life is too short, we have to be present, stop worrying & enjoy it here and there. Let’s try!

  8. Having school start next month stirs up such mixed emotions for me. My oldest will be entering first grade! She will be at school for 6 hours. I will miss her so much. On the other hand I’m looking forward to hearing all about what she’s learning. I love volunteering in the classroom and I’m on two committees for the PTA (which I never thought I’d do) Olivia is so excited to go back to school shopping! We both love shopping at Target and their new Cat & Jack line is so cute! This is a awesome giveaway!!

  9. Loved the post. I am definitely going to try the No 7 Serum. It has been awhile since you have done one of your favorite beauty updates….(lipstick, nail polish, perfume etc). I’d love it if you would do a post on you current favorite beauty picks! Thanks.
