I love the look of hanging pendant lights but sometimes they seem so overwhelming and too permanent when they need to be installed into a ceiling. Today, we're creating a smaller version that can be hung off a simple hook on your wall to add both light and decor to any small space…
You'll need:
-hanging light bulb cord & light bulb (we used this one)
-binder clips
-acrylic paint (if you want to tint the veneer)
-paint brush
-copper wire
-veneer edging
-hole punch
-hot glue gun
Here's how…
1. To create the decorative shade, cut 10 strips of the veneer edging about 15" long.
2. Add a dab of glue to create a ring with each piece of veneer edging. Secure with a binder clip to hold in place until glue is dry (we let it dry for 1 hour, but full cure is 24 hours). You'll want to create them in a variety of sizes so that some rings can be larger and layer over the smaller rings.
3. Paint rings in any color or color combination of your choice. You may need 2 coats of paint if you want a brighter color. Let dry for 30 minutes.
4. For the base of the lamp, cut a 5" strip of veneer edging. Repeat gluing/binder clip as in step 2 to secure into a ring.
5. Use a hole punch to make 8 holes in the small ring. Then, create a "#" shape with the wire within the ring – so if you were to divide the ring into quarters, there would be 2 holes in each quarter.
6. Cut 4 strands of copper wire about 5" long.
7. String the copper wire through each hole to the hole on the opposite side, creating a "#" with the wire.
8. Feed the light bulb cord through the center of the "#". This is meant to help keep any of the veneer edging from touching the bulb while lit.
9. Begin to build the lamp around the light, positioning rings at different angles and securing with hot glue to hold them in place.
I love this piece in an office, in a bedroom, or even as a nightlight in a kid's room!

We made a similar pendant (we had a similar base but wrapped more veneer around it) a while ago and still love it! It’s really easier than it looks so I’d definily encourage everyone to have a go!
Love your version, too – here’s the one we made http://www.littlehouseonthecorner.com/pendant-veneer-lamp-shade/
This is gorgeous! I definitely want to try this out.
