oh joy studio craft room: before and after!

With the move to our new Oh Joy Studio earlier this year, we needed a designated room for making and crafting all the projects that you see here. We have so many supplies that needed to be organized and stored in a way that makes everything easy to find and help the crafting and styling team work as efficiently as possible. We recently invited the IKEA Home Tour Squad into our office to takeover the craft room, and they completely blew my mind. They made the space so much more functional and beautiful—and now it's the room that everyone in the office wishes they worked in. See below for a short video of the complete makeover and more before and afters!

The room is basically set up like a kitchen (without the appliances) which added SO MUCH functionality to a room that needs to hold so many things that are constantly in use.

The open shelving allows us to see everything that needs to be accessed while also storing odd-shaped items like our seamless rolls of paper.

The main work space is set up like a "T" and gives space for active projects in the works as well as a place to put things aside while drying or when working on multiple projects at one time. The combination of overhead and counter cabinets gives multiple options for storage both for everyday storage and for items that need to be tucked away for occasional use.

I can't say enough how much the organization of the space (and all the tiny things that needed a home) has helped us find things and keep everything in its place in a way that we would have never been able to do before. Thanks so much to the IKEA Home Tour Squad team who spent three days at our office working on this project. We had a blast and learned so much from them!

If you want a shopping list with all the pieces we used, check it out here!  (2020 Update: some furniture pieces are not included in this list as they are not currently available in the exact manner they were purchased in 2017. We recommend visiting your local IKEA store or chatting with customer service to find a similar piece if you are interested.  They should be able to help you!)

  1. This is SO inspiring!! I just moved into an apartment with an extra room that will be my new craft room, and I’ve been searching everywhere online for simple and modern inspiration for craft rooms – so many are dated, or designed for scrapbookers or very niche crafters. Your space is what my dream craft room looks like, you and IKEA did an amazing job!! Although my room is closer to 1/4 of the size of yours, I’m so excited to use your space as inspiration when planning our my own. Thank you!!

  4. Hi! I love this system! Would you be able to share the product list? The link isn’t working. Thanks!!

  5. Thank you for sharing the product list! I noticed that it didn’t include the items from the desk part of the space… the wall mounted cabinets, etc. Do you have that information?

  6. Hi Alex!
This list Is from a few years ago so some of those items may be out of stock. You can show the photos to someone at IKEA and ask for close suggestions!
