It's no secret we love color-blocking around here. It's an easy way to add interest to a wall with color. Adding a simple floating shelf can make any wall more decorative and functional. But…it looks especially good when you paint the shelves to match your wall. And then it looks even cooler when the wall is color-blocked! Here are some examples…

In this living space, the floating shelves add an extra surface for decorative items. With the simple white and yellow color-block, the floating shelves simply get painted the color where they'll be placed! I love this simple graphic touch.

Items shown: Benjamin Moore Banana Yellow paint, Wooden Table Sign used as floating shelves from MichaelsLorena Canals rug, Oh Joy! for Target ottoman, Castle round pillow, Anthropologie shag pillow, Ai Modern credenza, Senegal woven basket, Lisa McLean abstract print, Tuesday Mourning face print, Framebridge frame, Marley & Alfie pom necklace, Perverse sunglasses (past season), Ikea mirror, Target wooden boxes (past season), Poketo geos, Studio DIY! avocado clutch, Target geoburst (past season), The Container Store pink acrylic box, The Container Store white box, Morroccan tote (similar).

In this bedroom setting, we did the same technique of matching the floating shelves to the color-blocked wall this time in three colors. Because this wall has a bit more going on, the simplicity of only three shelves balanced it out. You can use any wooden painted shelves. We used these wooden table signs as floating shelves and simply nailed them into the wall.

I love that this is an easy way to add interest to any room, and you don't need a lot of space to do it!
