I'm so excited to share our newest design collaboration…Oh Joy for Clé Tile! Earlier this year when we began working on the design and renovation of our new Oh Joy office, and I was chatting with Clé Tile to bring tile into the space. After a few conversations back and forth, we decided to design brand new cement tiles for the office and make it available for sale for other homes, offices, and retail spaces everywhere! See all the designs and more about the process below…
Designing tile is so different than everything else we normally design over here at Oh Joy. When Angie (our designer) and I began the process, we really had to work on simplifying our typical (very colorful and very pattern-heavy) methods. Most people don't want tile that is too colorful or over-the-top. Tile isn't cheap and it lasts for a long time, so it needs to feel like it can go with your space for a long time to come.
Also, there's the natural repeat that comes from tile that can be very repetitive. Or…you can take advantage of the various sides of a tile and design it so that even more design combinations are possible. With our pinwheel design (first image), the design is very symmetrical, yet the coloring on the corners vary and allow various combinations to be formed. So it allows you to have a symmetrical design with some variance if you want. We put that tile in my office floor (full reveal soon), but I chose to keep the placement consistent since our kitchen has a more tossed design (image above and below).
For our Petal, tile (shown in our kitchen above), the single design element on each tile makes it such that the placement changes the final pattern, and it can have endless options. It could be very regular and create lines or it can be totally random and tossed (like we did here).
Here's a look at all five tiles in our full Oh Joy for Cle Tile collection — Pinwheel, Bubble, Confetti, Petal, and Streamers. They have a sense of playfulness, yet look super chic in a bathroom, kitchen, office, coffee shop, or restaurant. They have touches of color, but aren't too intensely bold. They are meant to make just the right touch of a statement in a space.
You can request tile samples on each tile's page, which is helpful to see the colors in person as well as plan for an upcoming project. So if you're working on home or retail projects, check out our new Oh Joy for Cle Tile collection!
