It's nothing but rainbows for this month's Pattern Adventures! We're ending this month's pattern theme by showing you how to incorporate playful arches and all the colors of the rainbow to create a cozy, whimsical kid room. Here's how…

A soft wall color. A rainbow-themed room can quickly become chaotic with all the colors, so we made sure to keep the wall more simple with a light shade of mint. Mint coordinates well with the all the colors in our rainbow palette. It's also understated and calm, so it lets all the other colors pop.

Neutral rainbow. We incorporated neutral rainbow-inspired pieces, like the rug and floor pillow, that involve rainbow drawings but in a tonal way. These pieces help ground the room and allowed us to have fun with the accessories and other brighter pops of color throughout the space.

Literal rainbow. Then, we got literal in some of the accent pieces. We made a rainbow headboard by painting and cutting a piece of wood. Then, add the rainbow stripe chair, wall hangings, and lots of smaller rainbow toys. When adding in accent pieces, it's important to keep a balance of colorful and playful without being overwhelming the space.

For a toddler transitioning out of a crib, you can place a mattress on the floor for a super cute bedroom set-up. Or, apply these same ideas to a bigger kids' room in a twin size bed!

  1. Such a beautiful room. We have our toddler’s mattress on the floor and I’m totally using your headboard idea. How did you attach to wall?

  2. Regina,
We used quite a few Command strips since it was a temporary installation. However, for a more permanent solution I would mount it using wood brackets from behind. Also, try and use the lightest weight wood you can.
