It’s nothing new that we love color-blocking here at Oh Joy! There are SO many fun ways to color-block with shelves (like this or this). But for this bright, whimsical playroom, we thought it would be fun to add in painted color-blocked walls and then incorporate shelving into the space. It creates a great focal wall that is stylish, functional, AND allows you to introduce even more color into your home. Check it out…

We chose four colors that worked well together in similar shades (slate green, pastel pink, pale blue, and light yellow) with white, too. We then measured out the shapes and spaces we wanted to paint first, taped it off with blue painters tape, then filled it in! Here’s how…

We placed two smaller shelves onto the small blue square, a longer self on the pink rectangle, and three small shelves on the opposite wall. There is no exact formula, so have fun with it! Do whatever fits your painted shapes and is practical for your space.

The combo is SO fun and creates a functional and playful area of interest to any space!
