On Being Happy (or Not)

I had a talk with one of my kids recently where she felt bad that she wasn’t happy when her sister was happy. I reminded her that we have all kinds of feelings, and we don’t always have to be happy.

It feels weird to talk about un-happiness when my name and my brand has the word JOY in them. But one thing I’ve realized is as much as I want to bring joy into my day—and into yours—it’s ok to not feel happy, too. Whether it’s for part of a day, a whole day, a week…some days just aren’t feeling it. It’s not permanent, it’s probably a funk, and every season of life feels different, too.

These past couple years have been SO hard on everyone in varying ways. If you’re feeling un-happy, in a bit of a funk, or not quite yourself, I get it. It’s okay. The seasons will change. Try to find some distractions that make you smile and laugh as we ride out whatever season we’re in…
