Adding Touches of Holiday at Home

This is now our second holiday in my first home ever, and I love to find ways to add in holiday touches that feel right for me right now. Here’s a look…

When I was younger and imagined those who decorated their home for the holidays, I imagined grand, over-the-top, and insanely cheesy decor. Maybe that’s because I had a limited view of what holiday decor could be (hahaha) or maybe that’s because when I was younger, that’s mostly what I did see! This is now our second holiday in my first home ever, and I love to find ways to add in holiday touches that feel right for me right now. Here’s a look…

Ornament Sprinkle
I LOVE ornaments especially vintage ones. They have amazing color and are perfectly imperfect from their age and shape. But you can only put so many ornaments on a tree. So this year, I found other ways to use them by adding them to open shelving. You can place a few in areas (higher up) that don’t have much interference (no one wants to accidentally drop ornaments while putting away dishes). Or, you can put them inside a clear vessel like a glass pitcher or covered cake stand (like I did above) and display them on a shelf in clusters together. I love the color and touch of festivity it adds to a space I’ll see and enjoy every day!

Trees on a Shelf
Everyone is into Elf on a Shelf, but give me allllll the trees on a shelf! I love decor that I can keep for years to come and display in different ways each time. This year, I stocked up on these vintage-inspired glass trees from Bonjour Fete. I love the look of glass ones, bottle brushes, etc. There are so many that come in different sizes and colors to display in various nooks of your home.

Stairway Stockings
Since we don’t have a fireplace, I hang the stocking on the stairwell which is also an area we pass by multiple times a day. These stockings are vintage Frazada stockings which I love because each is different yet they are all part of the same family. Each stocking has an initial ornament to label each (or a fun beaded one for Sticky!). I’ve added some non-traditional garland that’s festive and fun around the railing, too!

What are some ways you’re decorating this year?

  1. It looks beautiful. I’m all about the mood lighting this year. I have battery operated tiny light strands everywhere and they all turn on at 4:30 pm- magic!

  2. I LOVE your idea of displaying vintage ornaments in clear vessels. I have several vintage ornaments but have been a little nervous having them on our Xmas tree. Now I have the perfect solution thanks to you!!!
