Long overdue…here’s my first contribution to the International Cupcake Tour.
Here are two cupcakes from Brown Betty Dessert Boutique in Philadelphia. For more about Brown Betty, see my post from a few days ago…
The “Hattie Don’t Play” Chocolate Cupcake (right)
Appearance: 4.5
Cake: 5.0
Frosting: 4.0
Final thoughts: Rich, chewy cake ~ almost brownie-like. Frosting is rich and complements cake nicely, nothing was too sweet. Appearance is nice ~ love the big, floppy, hat-like swirl of frosting on top!
The Sourcream Poundcake Cupcake (left)
Appearance: 4.0
Cake: 4.5
Frosting: 3.5
Final thoughts: Love the poundcake cupcake. Frosting was a bit too sour for me…tasted like lemon frosting. Like the spiky hair appearance of the frosting!
oh that chocolate one looks DI-VINE!
YUM! My mouth is watering and it’s 10:45 am. lol
Mmmm! Yummy! I have to ask about the plates. Are they yours or did they serve the cupcakes on them? They are adorable!
katie, ~ the plates are mine. i took the photos at home…
they are dessert plates from anthropologie… bought them last year. so unnecessary, but they were too cute to pass up!
Now the sour cream frosting is the type I LOVE. Regular cupcake frosting way too sweet for me. Can you fed-ex one of those to NYC?! 🙂
I’m coming home to Philly this weekend and got specific instructions from my sister to not bother coming home without a dozen buttercup in hand. I just might have to make a trip to BB now to try them out. Yum chocolate cupcakes!
Yummy! I love a cupcake!
oooooh yummy!!!!!
Hey there! I was wondering how you get the frosting to look so beautiful on the cupcakes? Are you using a special tip? I’m making cupcakes tonight for my friends mom’s funeral reception, and I really want them to look elegant.
thanks!
