In another life, I’d love to have the exceptional drawing ability to be an illustrator. Sarajo Frieden and Bonnie Dain are two illustrators I’ve come across recently. Sarajo’s use of text with her whimsical drawings make me wish all maps looked like this. And, Bonnie’s use of layering and black ink line make me want to whip out the ink pen and watercolor set. Both of their styles are wonderful for modern day kids books (and for grown-ups, too)!

I love all the whimsical illustrations! Great color too!
really nice illustrations! love this blog too.
Beautiful colours and illustrations.
Love that “Looking for Bapu”. Great find, Joy!
That sarajo looks a little like my favorite illustrator, J.Otto (www.jotto.com)
I too wish I had better illustration skills.
I love Lilla Rogers. They’re actually located nearby in Arlington, MA. I just contacted them, I’m wondering if they have a studio I can tour – I love all the talented illustrators they represent. I’m so happy you posted this, Miss Joy.
Have I told you lately that you ROCK?
