happy friday + staying hopeful…

Friday-flowers

Friday-flowers

It feels ironic having a happy Friday today when there's so much sadness going on around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Japan affected by the earthquake & tsunami…and we hope all of your loved ones are safe and sound. These branches sitting above my bar cart reminded me of Japanese cherry blossoms, so I took a quick snap this quiet Friday morning.

Bob and I are headed to Vegas this weekend which seems so silly in contrast but hopefully it will be a weekend to spend time together and reflect on how lucky we are to be happy, healthy, and safe. Also, just an update that HGTV had a scheduling change, so our episode of Secrets from a Stylist will now air next Saturday, March 19th {and not this Saturday}! Finally, there are one or two spots left in my product line & freelance workshops so get them while you can! Please have a safe and loving weekend all! — Joy

  1. Hello Joy 🙂
Thanks for honoring the earthquake victims.
We are doctors in Asia (my boyfriend specializes in disaster medicine, and me in cancer), and I hope that even though it’s a sad day, you will stay have a wonderful weekend.
We face death every day, and talk to very many people who are close to death. At the end of life, the things that made it worthwhile for them to be here was love of the people around them and the beautiful things in this life that made all the pain worthwhile.
I come back to work stressed out on many days, and love to look at your blog and remind myself that I’m working hard so that people can enjoy those great and beautiful moments in life, and why we must try to save them and make them fit to do all these great things again.
It is good to be thankful of the world around us, and learn to cherish it in a practical way. Thanks also for creating more happiness in this world (even if it is by material means mostly)!

  2. Hi Joy, we wrote once when you were planning your trip to Kyoto. Thank you for your wonderful post. I was in central Tokyo when the quake happened but was one of the fortunate ones to be able to find a friend to stay with as I live 1&1/2hours away on train which were all stopped.
Do go to Vegas and enjoy every moment! I so agree with Kay Lee…you bring so much joy to so many people and every moment we have to appreciate our health and the beauty of the world…we should enjoy to the fullest.
    My prayers to everyone affected.

  3. Joy, I just have to say that this post was very well articulated, tasteful and heart felt. It is good to acknowledge tragedy yet be grateful for the blessings we do have. That being said, Hope you have a marvelous time in Vegas!

  4. I hope you and your hubby had a lovely weekend in the sun – and I wish i could hop a plane to LA for workshop. I’m sure it will be dynamite! Cheers to you.
