Recently, I had the chance to play dress-up at Decades, the vintage shop on Melrose Avenue known as an
international shopping destination and retail haven for celebrities, stylists
and fashionistas. And to celebrate the new show The Dukes of Melrose, featuring Decades owners Cameron and Christos, I've partnered with Bravo and The Dukes of Melrose to give away a $500 online gift card for one lucky reader to go vintage shopping at Decades.

  1. I love buying vintage because it’s basically supercool recycling. Bags and jackets/coats are wonderful to buy vintage because they may get used a few times, then the owners are onto the next. Love Bravo & the show!

  2. I love this! I love imagining the back stories of vintage pieces, who could have possibly own it and all the adventures vintage items could have been on. I also love bags, but vintage dresses are my favorite because they can be so quirky.

  28. I think accessories are my favorite vintage pieces. Jewelry from past decades always make me feel like a different person in a different time. And they are something that can easily be incorporated into a variety of outfits.

  110. Vintage accessories are the best! It’s always wonderful to have a special statement piece that happens to be vintage. It just has more character and offers a special quality to any outfit…especially jewelry, sunglasses and scarves.

  111. DRESSES! Vintage sizing is more tailored to my figure as it is – plus it doesn’t hurt being one of a kind in a sea of Forever21! (Not to knock it, fast fashion has its charms.)

Scarves and handkerchiefs can be transformed into wall hanging, belts, and turbans. I like searching for unique patterns and materials. My favorite find is a belt scarves with black fringe and a neon yellow print from the 60’s. I wear it in my hear or attached to my bag.

Oh how I have admired Decades from afar for years…I adore vintage coats—the construction, the details, the ladylike proportions, vintage dresses—how the right one can feel transformative, vintage bags and jewelry—the “fixers”, but after having lived in London, I know that the right vintage hat can truly change everything.

I will admit, I didn’t make it the entire year but I made it 9 months and it completely altered my opinion of shopping needs and practices – in the best possible way.
    My favorite thing to buy vintage is jewelry – there are some fabulously unique pieces out there just waiting to be showed off and loved. Last spring I found this incredible chunky bangle at Miss Master’s Closet (Brooklyn) that has become my go-to statement accessory. 🙂

  696. In an ideal world, I love buying vintage dresses – 1960s wiggle dresses especially. I always feel like Joan from Mad Men when I am wearing them (va va voom!). I can’t always find them in my size, though, so I get my vintage kicks from great accessories – a gorgeous bag, a swank pair of shoes, or a statement piece of costume jewelry. Another way to get around the “people were smaller before” sizing problem is to buy vintage coats. They are much easier to fit – and so stylish. I may have 5 or 6 vintage 50s-60s coats and get compliments all the time (and they are usually less expensive than a good modern coat)
