For my girls' floral-themed birthday party, we made these giant neon paper flowers to spread throughout the park. They were a huge hit with both adults and kids alike and we wanted to share the DIY with you today…these would be amazing for a wedding, birthday party, or even for a front lawn decoration! See how right here…
You'll need:
– gold spray paint
– colorful cardstock
– scissors
– hot glue gun
Here's how:
1. Spray paint wooden dowel. Let dry 20 minutes.
2. Sketch different sized petals (small, medium, and large) and cut out. The shapes don’t need to be perfect – the flowers will look more organic with some imperfections.
3. Cut a slit almost half way up from the base of the petal.
4. Place a dab of hot glue along the bottom slit, and fold one over the other. Repeat for all petals.
5. Beginning with the large petals, hot glue the base of the petal to the foam disc. Continue adding, slightly overlapping each petal until you’ve made a full circle. Repeat with medium petals and then small petals.
6. For the center of the flower, cut out two wavy circles with one smaller than the other. Like the petals, cut a slit half-way up and glue together.
7. Glue the large circle in the middle of the flower, and then the smaller circle on top of that.
8. Push the wooden dowel a couple of inches into the foam to make a hole. Remove, add a dab of hot glue to the end of the dowel, and re-insert.

so pretty! i will definitely try this at home! 🙂
What a fun idea!
What a creative idea!!! will surely try this and recommend others to check this link for creating paper flower.
Is this just cardstock? Or is it poster board? I want to make these for my daughter’s first birthday party and I want to make sure I get the right supplies. The post says cardstock but the size of the petals/flowers make me think posterboard. ?
Do you have a template for petals?
Hi Debi,
You can create the shape and size you want! We did not create a template.
Thanks!
