At the start of this year we moved into a bigger studio, Oh Joy Studio 2.0. It was bittersweet to leave my first ever real office, but it was time to get a larger space where we could designate set areas for all of the different things we do here at Oh Joy. I'll be showing you every "Before" and "After" over the next few months as we work on getting it designed and finished. I'm so excited to work with my friend, Sarah Sherman Samuel, on a few of the rooms in our office. She has such a great eye and style that I'm thrilled to have her hand in our new Oh Joy office! Today, we're starting with the kitchen! The photo above is what the Oh Joy kitchen looks like right now.
It's a decent-sized kitchen that spans a corner of our office. When discussing what we wanted the new kitchen to look like and the aesthetic, I wanted to keep all the surface area but add more. Aesthetically, I wanted a modern kitchen with touches of Oh Joy in accents of mint and gold. Sarah put together a few options for us to review, and here's the one we are going with! This is a view from the top that shows how Sarah added a peninsula in to offer another workspace as well as a small seating area that can be used for meal time or when prepping recipe posts.
When planning and designing the office kitchen, we looked at what appliances were needed for everyday use—both functionally for when our team is prepping lunch and for the many recipe shoots we do in which we need to cook, bake, and prep. I'm SO excited to finally have a real kitchen where we can cook! In the last studio, we were always making things at home and then finishing off recipes in the toaster oven of our faux-kitchen. I'm opting for essential appliances from KitchenAid like a Refrigerator, Range, Dishwasher and Built-In Microwave. Now we'll have everything to cover everyday cooking needs, as well as a dishwasher for when we have events and need to wash in mass quantities (I can't wait to have workshops and little gatherings here!). For the cabinetry, I wanted to keep it simple and clean with white cabinets that allow the colors (and the items we'll eventually have in the kitchen) to pop. It made so much sense to get the cabinets from IKEA to create our custom kitchen with their classic white matte finish. This kitchen will look really beautiful and high-end with cabinets that are really affordable in price.
Here are a few other details and items that Sarah has selected for our kitchen including a sink and faucet from Ferguson, stool from CB2, and sconce from Cedar & Moss. I've been working with Clé Tile to create custom tiles which are a part of a larger Oh Joy for Clé Tile collection coming soon! We started renovations on this kitchen this week (eeek!) and are excited to see this sketch turn into a reality. I'll be sharing the process along the way on Instagram Stories, so come follow along! And a final finished post will be here once we're all done. Stay tuned…
P.S. You can see more of the process and designs that didn't make the cut over at Sarah's blog post right here.
*A special thank you to KitchenAid, IKEA, Cedar & Moss, and Clé Tile for providing their products for our kitchen remodel.

Soft mint green would look great in my kid’s bathroom! Thanks!

Wonderful! I am not an interior designer, but I enjoyed reading about all the details on how this kitchen and the kitchen plan came together.
Thank you Eiko!

Hey Joy,
I’m excited to see the finished product for your new office space. It’s great that you are focusing on functionality for your kitchen area.
I especially like the light fixtures you chose, I think they will add a great aesthetic to the area. Also, great work on picking your appliances 🙂
Thanks for sharing,
Jessica
