color adventures: an orange-inspired living room!

Happy Monday! We're starting the week off with a gorgeous living room for this month's Color Adventures: tonal orange. You might think designing a room based on orange would be tricky, but RUST is in the orange family, and it's one of our favorite colors this season. Rust paired with peach and gold makes this room a dream come true…

The inspiration! This color-block rainbow print was the inspiration piece for the room. We thought it would be fun to paint the wall with the same colors used in the print and take the color-blocked wall to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL by matching the line in the print with the line on the wall. We love all of the small, intentional details that go into creating a really amazing space.

Let's talk colors and textures! When creating a tonal room (or outfit…or anything!), it's important to use contrasting shades. So, we used our velvet peach settee to soften the room and piled it with pillows in various tones of orange and textures. We went with a neutral rug to help ground the room and give the space extra texture. (Style tip: Grounding a space means to establish an area for a room by giving it a defined area. A rug is a perfect accessory to ground a space and then build the rest of the room on top of that rug!).

It's all in the accent pieces. We brought in a lot of wood furniture pieces (like the coffee tables and shelf) and gold accent pieces. Dark wood adds warmth and richness to any space which made this room extra cozy and inviting. Plus, dark wood and rust looks amazing together. To make sure the space still felt sophisticated, we used a lot of brushed gold accents.

What do you think? Isn't it pretty magical?

  1. Joy, I painted our whole bonus room like this and it looks amazing! Thank you for the inspiration!
Any recommendations for colors for the adjoining hallway that match these two? I’m really struggling with it. Thank you!
