Long Weekends Give Me Life

There are a few simple pleasures I’ve been working towards my whole adult life…owning a house, getting massages (my favorite treat to myself!), and being able to create a life where I can take long weekends more often. Just this summer (right now) in my 16th year of having a business and my 20th year of being a working adult in the world, I am implementing Summer Fridays for myself and my team. It’s sort of crazy that I didn’t do it earlier, but I didn’t think I could realistically make it work. And, I honestly wasn’t prioritizing my mental health before this past year (because I could have made it work if I wanted to). While everyone does Summer Fridays differently (some of you get half days, some get full days but alternate every other week with others on your team), it’s clear that anyone who has had them loves it and hasn’t seen their work or productivity (on the other 4 days of the week) suffer at all.

This past weekend, my family and I took a long weekend trip to Big Bear Lake which is just a couple hours east of Los Angeles. We stayed at a beautiful AirBnb cabin and spent the weekend playing by the lake, going on a boat ride, and exploring a mountain town that is vastly different than bustling Los Angeles. It was a simple trip we all needed to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer in what’s been a crazy and hard past year for everyone.

So as we kick off this summer (and the beginning of a return to normalcy – hooray!), I’m excited to see where these Summer Fridays take me. It won’t always be a trip, but even the extra day away from my computer getting inspiration out in the world or making up for lost time at lunch with friends will be just lovely. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes…

  1. I love long weekends, that probably goes without saying, and I have recently cut down my hours at work so I can have one every week. Best thing I have ever done!

I have a far more positive outlook on life and have no regrets on the small pay cut that I had to take.
