Lately, my 6-year-old has been joking to me and asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” She truly wants an answer although she knows I’ve technically already “grown up”. It’s funny to think back to all the things I thought I wanted to be when I was little…from a cheerleader to a botanist to a pediatrician to a writer to a geneticist to an artist and probably so many other things I can’t remember. I ended up being a graphic designer who then turned into an author, an editor, a blogger, content creator, a teacher, a speaker, a Creative Director, and still the list goes on…
Although sometimes I feel like I have my dream job, there’s still so many things I wish I could try or I wish I could do. Maybe there are more things I actually do want to be when I grow up? I’m not really sure, but it’s fun to think about. What could I still be when I grow up? What could YOU still be when you grow up?
P.S. This was a great piece about changing careers (part 1 and part 2) from two Oh Joy team members.
I love this post. Although I am retired (read OLD) from my career job, I still want to know what else I can do. To that end I have been painting, playing the piano, learning a language and planning trips.
My philosophy is that you have never “ended up” anywhere until you are in your final resting place. Just look at Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton – they are my role models for living every day no matter how “grown up” you are.
I love that Leslie-Anne. And I agree with all the exploring you have been doing! What we want to be when we grow up isn’t always related to our jobs or careers but things we want to explore/learn/do, too! Thanks for sharing!
Aww love this post! I still want to do things when I ‘grow up’, and I am grateful that there are enough things that interest me so I can continue learning and growing. Here are three things that come to mind at the moment: flying planes, designing homes/buildings, and being a ninja 😄. I just started working a bit towards the last two.
Oh I love those Tasnim! Thanks for sharing!
