If you remember our birth announcement, we knew we wanted to raise a baby who would hopefully love food as much as we do. We started Ruby on solids a couple weeks ago, and it's been so fun to watch her explore eating from a spoon and the look on her face while enjoying this new texture. She turned six months yesterday! We're starting fruit and vegetables soon, and I'm surprisingly excited to start making baby food. I tease that she'll have Thai green curry and Korean kimchi in her puree because of our ethnic backgrounds! Not just yet but one maybe of these days…

And, thanks so much to everyone who came out to my little Pool Party at Kate Spade last night! It was so fun to meet all of you. Have a wonderful weekend guys! — Joy

Ps. Congrats to Alice F. from Atlanta, GA for being the winner of our spring "This & That" giveaway! Don't forget…as an extra bonus for all Oh Joy readers, this special Oh Joy! 1. Congrats on Ruby! She’s a really cute doll. My daughter is now 20 months and we just brought her to Korean BBQ and had her tried Jap Chae for the first time. She loved it! She’s a noodle girl… i suppose it’s the Asian roots. 🙂

  2. Preparing baby foods can be so much fun! I was way more creative in terms of food prep with my second than my first and now he’ll try anything. It’s great. Ruby, and these pictures, are gorgeous. Happy 6 months!

  3. Awww I love these pics. Such colorful toys! Making baby food is the BEST. At first i thought it was going to be a chore, but then was pleasantly at how much I enjoyed it =)

  4. Our little 14mos lovesss Thai food..Nam Prik and all! He was so interested in everything and anything on our plates that one day, I gave in and gave him some of my prik king with rice and he LOVED it! I think he was just 10-11 mo. old then. I’m sure Ruby will love anything you guys eat. They say babies can taste what we mamas eat through the breast milk. 🙂
Happy 6 mos. baby Ruby! Do you call her TupTim Noi in Thai? She’s so cute!

  5. She’s darling! Love love the punky hair. Ha hah…I bought that hamburger guy for my boss’s birthday last year but I’d love the banana guy for myself (where’d you get it?)

  6. Congrats! It’s so fun & exciting, isn’t it? My daughter turned 7 mos 2 weeks ago, I totally can relate with you the excitement! 🙂
I LOVE the blue & white striped dress on Ruby, do you mind if I asked where is that from?
    TIA!

  7. I love her baby hair so much!
Making baby food is the greatest thing ever. Our little one has become somewhat of a diva since having our food. She refuses jar food in a pinch…oy!

  8. Awww.. my youngest turned six months yesterday! I have been making baby food too! We started at four months with solids, dr. recommendations, because he was on a pricey hypo allergenic formula. And it’s been going well so far.

  9. How cute is she! They grow up so fast!!! I have one and a 2nd on the way! I love the pink donut! We just found out yesterday we are having a girl may i ask where you found the adorable donut…?

  10. Hi P!

  11. Hello! I recently found your blog- Ruby is adorable* My daughter just turned 6 months last week as well! Though I am delaying solids for as long as I can..! I saw the video of her drinking water and was wondering, what sippy cup is she using? Would you recommend it? Thank you in advance!

  12. aww happy 6 months ruby!! i love how she is surrounded by all the plush food! love the heidi kenney donut. i got the pizza one for a friend’s kid. 🙂

  13. Oh she is beautiful, congratulations! I am now wondering if it is a terrible sign that I am hungry from seeing that awesome donut pillow! Yikes.

  14. Ruby is precious! I love her adorable striped dress she’s got on! Stylish at 6 months.. Impressive! 😉

  15. She’s just soooo cute! what a precious little girl!
It looks like she has eyeliner in the second picture 😉
Just discovered your blog and I’ve been reading for more than an hour, straight to my favourites!

  16. I am fairly new to your blog, and I just have to say I have really enjoyed reading your monthly Ruby updates. I have a new daughter too, just a few months younger. So as I read your posts I get excited about what’s to come and can relate when you say not every day is the same. I also often wonder then, “what did i do? why aren’t you sleeping.” Ruby is such a cutie and I love her outfits. Where do you buy her clothes!?

  17. I love that yellow blanket she’s laying on! Mind me asking where it’s from? I’m all for anything striped and bright.
ps. Ruby is so adorable…she’s making me want babies! haha

  19. Don’t be afraid to try different flavours at a young age. We would made mild dahl for ours etc. As for kimchi, our little one (now two) is a kimchi fiend (neither of us are Korean) so much so that I now need to hide it from her. Otherwise it’s cry fest.
Happy 6th month, Ruby! So many new exciting things await.

  20. Hi Katie Lynn,
I received this cookbook as a gift:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cooking-Baby-Wholesome-Homemade-Delicious/dp/1416599185/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1336063968sr=8-1
In the beginning, you dont really need a cookbook since everything is single ingredient (peas, yams, etc). We use the Beaba to make her food:
    http://www.amazon.com/Beaba-Babycook-Baby-Food-Maker/dp/B001LQCOIS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1336064047sr=8-1
The book is great for a bit later when you can combine more ingredients and more flavors!
    Joy

  21. Thanks Joy! We have a Beaba and plan to start using it in about 2 weeks.
I’m looking forward to sharing this new exploration with my mini! Can you imagine what a momentous occasion it must be for their little brains the first time they try new foods – if only we could remember those Earth-shattering occasions.
    Thanks for the recommendation.
